Plans, billing & prepaid packs
This guide walks a small-business owner through picking a Routella plan, starting the free trial, and topping up usage features (route stops and WhatsApp messages) with non-expiring prepaid packs — all in plain language.
What it is
Routella has two money pieces that work together. First, a monthly plan (Free, Growth, or Pro) that unlocks the core tools — drivers, orders, rounds, store connections, the tracking page, and notifications. Second, prepaid packs: small one-time top-ups you only buy if you use up the monthly amount that's already included for two pay-as-you-go features — Smart Routing (the tool that puts your stops in the best driving order) and Routella WhatsApp (sending delivery updates over WhatsApp from a shared number). Your plan gives you a chunk of each every month; if you run out, a pack tops you up. Packs never expire. There's also a separate SMS wallet for text-message updates, where you load credit in advance and it's used up as texts go out.
Why it matters
You pay a steady, predictable monthly price for the everyday tools, and you only spend extra when you actually need more — no surprise bills and no meter running in the background. Because packs never expire, anything you buy stays yours until you use it, so a busy month doesn't go to waste and a quiet month doesn't cost you. For a small business that's juggling deliveries by hand, this keeps your costs easy to plan and your delivery updates flowing even on your busiest days.
Step by step
- 1Look over the three plansOpen the plans page (the page that shows Free, Growth, and Pro side by side). Free covers 1 driver, 50 orders a month, and 5 rounds — good for trying it on real deliveries with no card. Growth ($29/month) adds 5 drivers, 1,000 orders, unlimited rounds, all store connections, WhatsApp, the SMS wallet, and Smart Routing with 250 stops a month included. Pro ($79/month) removes the limits and includes 500 Routella WhatsApp conversations and 1,000 routing stops a month. Pick the one that matches how many deliveries you do.
- 2Start your plan or 14-day trialOn the plan you want, press its main button (Free starts right away with no card; Growth and Pro begin a 14-day free trial). You'll be sent to a secure checkout to confirm. If you installed Routella through Shopify, billing goes through Shopify and you approve it inside your Shopify admin; otherwise Routella bills you directly. Either way the prices and features are the same.
- 3Know what's included each monthYour plan refills two usage features at the start of every billing cycle: routing stops for Smart Routing and (on Pro) WhatsApp conversations. A WhatsApp 'conversation' covers all messages to one phone number within a 24-hour window, so your chattiest customer only counts once a day no matter how many updates they get. You don't have to do anything — this allowance is spent first, automatically, before any pack.
- 4Watch your usage in SettingsGo to Settings and find the Smart Routing and WhatsApp areas. Each shows a small bar like 'used / included this cycle' so you can see how much of your monthly amount is left. If you've ever bought a pack, your leftover pack balance shows there too, labeled as never-expiring — so you always know where you stand before a big delivery day.
- 5Buy a prepaid pack when you run lowWhen you've used up the month's included amount, a small pop-up appears offering packs to top up — it opens on its own the moment you hit the limit, and you can also open it yourself from the Buy button in Settings. Routing packs are 500 stops for $10 or 2,000 stops for $30. WhatsApp packs are 200 conversations for $15 or 500 for $30. Tap the pack you want.
- 6Pay for the pack and keep goingPicking a pack sends you to the same secure checkout to pay the one-time price (Shopify merchants pay through Shopify; everyone else pays Routella directly). After you pay, the stops or conversations are added to your balance and you can keep dispatching right away. There's no meter and no overage charge — you're never billed for more than the pack you chose.
- 7Set up the SMS wallet separately (optional)Text-message updates use their own prepaid wallet, not packs. In Settings, find the SMS area and load credit in advance; it's drawn down as texts are sent (roughly $0.10 per SMS, and the exact cost depends on the destination country). Unused balance carries over and never expires, and you can top it up any time.
Tips
- Packs never expire — so if you have a busy season coming, it's safe to buy a bigger pack ahead of time and it'll wait for you.
- Your monthly included amount is always spent first, and packs are only touched after that runs out, so you won't accidentally burn pack credit while you still have free monthly usage left.
- If a button just sits there or you see a session message during checkout, reload the page and try again — that usually clears it. For anything that won't budge, email support@routella.app.
- WhatsApp and SMS are separate things: WhatsApp uses conversation packs (or your monthly included conversations), while SMS uses its own prepaid wallet. Top up the right one for the channel you actually send on.
Common questions
What happens if I run out of routing stops or WhatsApp conversations mid-day?
You'll see a pop-up offering top-up packs right when it happens, so you can buy more in a few taps and keep going. There's no surprise charge — you only ever pay for the pack you choose. If you'd rather wait, you can pause and your monthly amount refills next cycle.
Do prepaid packs ever expire or auto-renew?
No. A pack is a one-time purchase that tops up a balance which never expires and never bills you again. It just sits in your account until you use it. Your monthly plan is the only thing that renews automatically.
Can I use Smart Routing or buy packs on the Free plan?
Smart Routing can be added to any plan, including Free, as a small monthly add-on that comes with some included stops; you then buy flat routing packs if you need more. Growth and Pro already include a larger monthly stop allowance built into the plan. Routella WhatsApp conversations are included on the Pro plan.
